Education Programs and Activities
Education Programs are multi-lesson units that offer a complete program of study on a theme related to the Holocaust, using the stories of several Canadian survivors. Education Activities are designed to supplement a broader unit of study on the Holocaust and focus on a specific theme or survivor.
Seeking Refuge: Immigration to Canada Before, During and After the Holocaust
By exploring primary sources and first-hand accounts, students are encouraged to learn about the range of experiences of survivors, both during and after the Holocaust. Students will develop a greater understanding of Canada’s role and response during the Holocaust, in addition to exploring one of a few ways that survivors made their way to Canada after the war.
Hearing History: A Holocaust Survivor Memoir Read Aloud Program
This program is designed to help students learn about the Holocaust as educators guide them through a read aloud of a published memoir.
Education Disrupted
Using the Azrieli Foundation’s digital exhibit Education Disrupted, this activity will help students understand what education and its disruption meant to Jewish students before, during and after the Holocaust.
Hidden Children, Identity and the Holocaust: Surviving in the Margin of Catastrophe
This program explores stories of survivors who were hidden as children during the Holocaust and later immigrated to Canada.
