Life Writing and Holocaust Literature
May 5, 2027 | Toronto, ON
The Life Writing and Holocaust Literature Conference, under the auspices of the Azrieli Foundation’s Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program, will bring together scholars, graduate students and researchers (early career and established) to explore the vital role that life writing plays in Holocaust studies and literary scholarship.
Through memoirs, diaries, letters, journals and other forms of personal narratives, presenters will examine how Holocaust experiences are remembered, interpreted and transformed into literary forms that shape our understanding of the Holocaust.
The conference invites interdisciplinary approaches that consider the intersections of memory, gender, trauma, literary narrative and representation, among others. The conference will provide a forum for engaging with life writing and Holocaust literature while simultaneously exploring the enduring significance of personal narratives evidenced in life writing in Holocaust scholarship and education.
Proposals must engage with at least one publication from the Azrieli Foundation’s Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program. Browse the curated collection.
