Survivor: Mania Rubinstein-Weinrib

I am so grateful to the Azrieli Foundation for affording me the confidence and tools to be able to document Mania Rubinstein-Weinrib’s experience during the Holocaust. Participating in Sustaining Memories was hugely impactful for me. From the course to the time spent with Mania, to the transcribing challenge and the culmination of turning all of that into the story of Mania’s life, it was one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. To have been entrusted with recounting the most painful and horrific times in someone’s life is a great privilege and a huge responsibility. We cried and laughed together. At times, we were both emotionally and physically exhausted from living through the horrors that she recounted. To be granted that gift of trust and to feel the satisfaction of a completed testimony that will live on is something that I will always cherish.
